Bat Cave & Waterfall

Bloody River, Stonefort
Time: 2-4 Hours
Difficulty: 7/10

Bat Cave presents a stiff but enjoyable challenge with its ascending trail and tricky climbs. Start by the old railroad bridge, following the Bloody River towards verdant woods and deep into the mountains that define St. Kitts. Within 20 minutes of setting off, trekkers must negotiate “The Rock,” a 15-foot boulder that completely blocks the riverbed. Pass this obstacle, though, and you’ll be rewarded with a trip to Bat Cave, home to hundreds of flying bats and a small waterfall.

Mt. Liamuiga Crater Rim

Fahies, Newton Ground
Time: 6-7 Hours
Difficulty: 7/10

Conquer St. Kitts’ tallest peak. Departing from Newton Ground, the round-trip route takes 6-7 hours to finish and cuts through the Kittitian rainforest. Climbing up Mt. Liamuiga’s slopes, hikers are treated to the sights and sounds of a tropical jungle—like the calls of hummingbirds, the chatter of vervet monkeys, and light peeking through the canopy of exotic trees. The true prize awaits at the summit—take in the view from the volcano’s rim, 3,792 feet up in the air. If you’re feeling brave, you can descend via a rope into the heart of the mountain and cool off with a soak in the crater’s lake before heading back to town.

Dos D’Anse Pond

Wingfield, Old Road
Time: 6-7 Hours
Difficulty: 5/10

Clocking in at five hours, the hike up to Dos d’Anse Pond is one of the island’s toughest and most rewarding. Start at Old Road Town, taking a trail that climbs through rich green foliage. After coming head-to-head with a 900-foot, 25-degree gutter, hikes are rewarded with a private tropical oasis, complete with a freshwater pond, tropical plants, and a gentle cascading waterfall.

Lawyer Stephen’s Cave & Waterfalls

Olives
Time: 3-5 Hours
Difficulty: 5/10

Named after James Stephen — a British abolitionist who fought to end the slave trade — this two-part hike sets off from the foot of Olivees Mountain and plunges into the rainforest. Climb up 1,339 feet, past the cave along the marked trail, until you reach two waterfalls. From here, the choice is yours: Turn back or tackle an advanced hike, complete with scrambling, rope climbing, and rock hopping, to reach the second cascade. Whichever option you choose, you’ll be back at base camp within five hours.
